i believe 77 was the 1st year.I remember that 77 i think was the year the cougars had come out w/ station wagons(only year). So i am saying 77 i think was the 1st yr.

I believe it was in the 1977 model year. This is when Merc phased out the Montego nameplate and assimulated that model lineup into the Cougars.
