I am planning to get my heads rebuilt when I get the engine done. I have a choice of the heads currently on my 67 with a 68 289 ( 289 stamp, 8E31 build date) or heads from my spare parts bin (289 stamp, 7F29 build date with 66 also stamped). Is one set any better than the other?

They are the same

Get them magnufluxed, see which set needs less repair work. They should be virtually identical.

Thanks Royce! BTW I seem to remember that there is a year of 289 or 302 heads that are not as "desireable?". Can you shed a bit o light on this?

Head Games

70 and later heads are undesirable because the rockers are not adjustable and the combustion chamber gets big among other things. Anything from 1968 back is a good head in my opinion. The later ones can be ok but will need more work and parts to be equal in performance to the earlier units.
