how much is reasonable for a high quility paint job? i got one price so far and it was 4000. i know the guy and he does good work but i thought that was high. am i wrong?
I have paid $7500 for show quality paint jobs recently. This involves no rust repair and only minor bumping. $4000-$5000 gets you very nice driver paint that the untrained eye would think is a show quality job. The difference in the price is two more coats of primer and blocking in between. I mean hand blocking each time with a a guide coat by a guy who knows what he's doing. For $7500 you also get color sanding and 3 stages of rub. For $4000 you can expect 1 coarse rub and a wax.
For that kind of money I'd be 100% satisfied or they'd be painting them again.Man, I wish I could have found prices like that when I was doing my last two cars. Granted both my cars were color changes, but no rust repair or basically any body damage. The cougar was 11,500 and they didn't even have to pull the vinyl top and my Torino was 10,800. I guess don't come to Michigan if you want your cars painted. And actually I wasn't 100% satisfied with either one of them.
