I need some help on what size control valve to buy.
I just got back from getting a state inspection and I'm
told my p/s control valve is going bad. Good news is the
car passed the inspection and now I can drive it!!
Looking in M/U catalog and my choices are 1/4" or 5/16"
pressure hose port. Which one do I order??
I know my old unit can be rebuilt but I like to go with new stuff.
Royce,
I just looked in the Autokrafters catalog and it says
early 1967 is 1/4" and late 1967 is 5/16".
My vin number is 7F93C631535 so does that mean
my car is late or early?
Just for future reference:
The data plate on the door will have the build date, ie:19E (May 19th)
XR7's did not come out till Janurary of 1967 (mid year).
Another thing to show your car is late 67 is the vin #'s started at 500001
Your car is 631535 very late 131,534th Cougar made in '67
I called John's classic cougar on Friday and he told
me if i could get a 7/16" wrench onto the fitting from
the p/s pressure hose it would be a 1/4" size pressure port.
He said that makes my car a "true" 67. On the other hand he
told me if a 1/2" wrench fits onto the fitting from the P/S pump
then it's a 5/16" pressure hose port.
Well I had some time today to crawl under my car to find the answer. The 7/16" wrench is the winner! So that being said I
guess I need a control valve with a 1/4" pressure hose port...
correct???? Just like Royce said in the frist place.
rx7gt: my build date is 28F which is June 28th. John told me I had a late model car.
I want to order soon so I need to know for sure.
I have owned a slew of 67's, all had the small control valve pressure port regardless of date.
That being said, I also changed some to the large port because the part store was out of the small port version. Any good part store has a Dorman fitting assortment, you can use the 5/16 to 1/4" reverse flare reducer to avoid changing the pressure hose.
OK it's time to pull the trigger and order the 1/4"
size.
