I have a 69 cougar. Id like some comfortable high back seats. Just dont know what may work. Guess i could do some modifications if necessary. I seen a nice set from a 98 mustang cobra.
I used to have a 68, that seats from a 71 cougar was in it. I loved em.

I actually used seats from a '72 Pinto in one of my Cougars. The Pinto high back seats bolted directly to the seat tracks from the Cougar with no modification. They were comfortable and looked good. Probably the only part of a Pinto that does well.

I used 96 Mustang seats in one Cougar I had.It was a easy swap. I did need to elongate the holes in the seat tracks. Outside of t hat it was a bolt in. The ones I had also had power lumbar that I had to wire up.

Ive been looking into this lately too, seems alot of seats can work with a little fitment of the tracks or making your own adapters. The issue I have is alot of seats look out of place in the interior IMO. I saw a few pictures of a cougar with BMW E30 seats that had been redone to match the interior, Looked pretty legit.

Recently Ive been looking at the TMI pro series seats. They are completely new replacements and look at home in a classic. They are low back(higher then stock cougar seats) with or without headrests, also a highback version. A pair of them are about 900 bucks but if you factor in finding a used take out set and getting them reupholstered your going to be close to that price anyway. I have priced having my stock cougar seats refoamed and new covers installed and its about the same cost as the new tmi seat.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to put in my project. I read the Mustang forums and saw a lot of references to Fiero and E30 seats, but looking around, they seem really hard to find these days. Same for the 87-93 Mustang seats (which I know are comfy since I've got an 89). Right now I'm kind of thinking of going with the ~2013 seats, my Dad's got a 2013 and we've but a bunch of miles on that over road trips and those are comfy too. I'm planning on custom upholstery anyway, so some used seats would actually be cheaper.

Got a ways to go before I'm even close to ready to put seats in it, so I guess I've got time...
