It is a 1969 from the Dearborn plant, non XR-7 convertable, 351 2v windsor and is the 69,943'rd Cougar built that year.
Have fun.

hi,

Have you tried decoding your VIN through http://www.cougarclub.org/VinDecoded.aspx? It shows a 69 Standard cougar / convertible with a 351 Windsor, 2BBL.

Also, can I bug the group with a question ... (ummm....and piggyback on your post)?

How can you tell via VIN/dataplate that a cougar is a GT or a DGS?
I know how to tell coupe vs. XR7 and 289/302/ & 390 just not sure what makes a GT/DGS?

thanks in advance!

Hi John, There is no way to tell those things as they are consitered trim packages. There might be a way to tell from the buck tag at the right front. I know the CCOA web site has info on how to decode the buck tag.
Good Luck

Hi, can you repost the DOS code? It should be two numbers.
Thanks

OK, here we go, the decoder was not working, so I broke out the books.

Body/ 76a = non XR-7 Convertable
Paint/ P = Medium Blue Met.
Trim/ 2B = DK & LT Blue Vinyl
Date/ 17F = June 17, 1969
DSO/ 34 = Detroit
Axle/ 2 = 2.75 open
Trans/ X = FMX auto

Now this is what I think you will find interesting.:1poke:

In 1969 only 1,072 Cougars were Medium Blue Met with a DK & LT Blue Vinyl interior. Out of those 1,072, only 215 were Cougar Convertables.
You my friend have a low production car!!
Good luck with her.

thanks i have white interior
Some where during the cars life, the interior must have been changed. I do not see a white interior code for your car.
I will find out what is the code. But according to the door tag, it should be the DR & LT Blue Vinyl or deluxe interior.
