My 97 Cougar 3.8L leaks antifreeze at the front of the engine. I am not certain exactly where it leaks. The leak appears inboard of the passenger side "freeze" plug. It's not from the top front hose connections or from the thermostat gasket. And it's not from the "freeze" plug.

The leak might be between the head & block, but I suspect the it's between the timing cover (engine front cover) and the block. Removing the timing cover is a major job -- moving the accessories driven by the fan belt and also dropping the cast oil pan to clear the timing cover.

Is the timing cover to block gasket a likely place for an antifreeze leak? Will appreciate any suggestions on other possible locations before I begin a major teardown.

Thanks

ford put a recall out on the 3.8 v6 motors for leaking heads and headgaskets, you may want to check with a dealer and have them run the vin and find out. it could save you a bunch of money..

tex
it may not be a 67-73 but it is still family:D
