I am from South Africa and I still have not sorted out my transmission leak, it's been months. I don't know what to do about transmission fluid but I have lost too much oil and I need to do a change now and fix the leak.
I have a 1969 C6 Automatic Transmission.
The problem is that I cannot get Ford type F here as hard as I have tried. I can however get Dexron III or Mercon V. Please can someone advice on what I should do? I have even thought about importing but the shipping cost will be ridiculous and it is something that could cause problems in customs.
The bottom line is... Can I use Dexron III as a replacement?

If you were to start from scratch and be rebuilding the trans with new band and clutches, I would say yes. If the trans currently has type F in it now, then it may ruin the trans by using a different fluid.

Most newer clutches are compatible with dexron III --- but check the the clutch manufacturers recommendations.
