Well this weekend was 1/2 price weekend at the Chesapeake Pick-n-pull. I was able to retrieve a set of GT40P's from a 2000 Explorer. Only cost me $52.00 (and some change). They are in great shape!!

Nice - I wonder if ours does that? They don't advertise it very well if the do.

Gotta love 2 for 1 or 1/2 price days at the pull n pay type salvages. On my last visit, during a 1/2 price weekend, I scored 4 leather bucket seats,...blemish free for $45.00,... usually $22.50 ea.

I pulled a pair of GT40P's for my '85 Mustang a few months back and ported them per the info below. Evidently it's easy to screw them up by cutting too much and in the wrong places. I did exactly what was descibed in the article and no more.

I just dropped the heads off at a machine shop to have a valve job because I wasn't getting enough contact with the valve seats when I tried to lap the valves. $130 for a 3 angle valve job at a shop in Spartanburg, SC.

I also ordered a new set of springs from Alex's Springs. http://www.alexsparts.com/sb-ford-gt40p-drop-in-valve-spring-kit-hyd-roller/
Many on the Mustang forums say the stock Explorer springs are too weak, even with a stock Mustang HO camshaft. I've already purchased a Comp Cams XE-264HR-14 cam and Ford Motorsport GT40P shorty headers. Are these going on your Cougar? Let us know what headers or exhaust manifolds you end up using.

They will eventually go on but there is other stuff to do. I just wanted to "git while the gittin' is good" and it was the only v8 explorer in the yard. I plan on getting them re- worked and building a stroker maybe in the spring. I got my eyes on the Sanderson headers but would like to find something a little cheaper. I love this site and will definately be posting updates. South Carolina? Now thats a hot place.
