Can you snatch the tach out of any car in the pick a part and make it work? I just need a cheap one for tuning until I buy the real deal.....

Not an electrical guy, but I have read a few threads on here about the nuances of our cats tachometers.

Do a search for your year tach on the site and you should come up with answers.

Hopefully that helps.

I thing the answer is going to be yes - a tach is a tach...
While it might be a little more expensive then pulling one from a salvage yard, for tuning the carb on my 68, I am picking up a Dwell\Tachometer gauge from Autozone: Actron Analog Dwell\tachometer\voltmeter automotive analyzer. For under $40 (about $30 price matched to NAPA), I figure I don't have to mess around with making something work, just connect and adjust idle and AF mixtures.
