I just got done rewiring the starter, solenoid and alternator section of my 68 XR7's harness to remove all the crappy soldering jobs the previous owner had done. On top of all the cutting splicing and soldering, the PO had also swapped in a starter with a solenoid right on it and bypassed the solenoid on the inner fender.
I got the wiring straigthened out and went to swap in a new starter and it just won't fit. It seems like there isn't enough room between the center link, the bellhousing and the oil pan.
My car has a 302 and came with a C4, but the tranny pan looked really square to me, so that would make it an FMX, right?
If my car has had an FMX swapped in, would I need a different starter? Any other reasons why the starter wouldn't fit?
