Hey all,

I've been looking for a paint and body shop to get the final body touches and the color put on my Cougar. I've gotten a few places told to me as doing good work (L&G Enterprises in San Dimas comes to mind) but I was wondering if anyone here had paint done for a good price?

I'm looking to paint the Cougar Vitamin C (bright orange on 69-70 Plymouths, called Go Mango on a Dodge) and just get the panels aligned and any small dents we didn't catch smoothed out. But I'm trying to keep the total cost under $3k. I also need the car done by April 25th or so, so I can get it into Fab Fords (already registered!)...which means a slow shop is a bad one. At least, a PARTICULARLY slow shop, considering that's almost 2 months from now.

So who here has had a car painted? New or classic? How much was it? Where??? I'm sure this won't apply to a majority here but I know we have a fair amount of people in SoCal.

I don't know exactly where you live (I'm in San Diego) but I would recommend the Yellow Pages and visit your local body shops that do older/classic cars. Some body shops only do recent car repairs. Some classic car body shops only do high dollar restorations. Try some of the smaller shops and SEE their work. $3K should be do-able. Some people have had good results with Maaco even.

how much did he charge you? did he do bodywork aswell or just paint.

It was an insurance job and I had flattened the front end pretty bad. He did all of the bodywork and paint he also welded up over 40 little holes that the po had installed a fake vinyl roof (painted the roof white with a fabric welt)
I took all of the interior out and took it home then reassembled it.
It was $3500

im gonna check out a shop today. they do alot of good work there and i know for a fact that they use good materials. ( they buy from us, and not the el cheapo stuff ) they are out in Harbr City and they do alot of custom work there and the two guys that run the place are into old cars and they do alot of those as well. ill see if i can get a ballpark figure for you. they do colision work as well so i know they would be able to handle your car. ill see what kind of time frame they can deal with as well. oh yeah. Garey... your car is indeed incredibly straight and nice. the work done to the body and the paint is all very very well done. look forward to seeing it all back together again.
