OK, how do you do it? I can visualize the inner and outer wheel wells, and the trunk drop off. I just don't know what holds the rear quarter to the rocker panel, and how to separate them.
Here's a video of a guy preparing to install a patch panel. In the video, you can see how the front of the quarter panel is attached to the rocker panel.
it has about the same overlap as the wrap around the door jamb. We cut the quarter down pretty close to the seem and then removed the small strip left by grinding and chiseling the spot welds. Once the residual of the old panel is removed we just ground things clean in preparation for the new pieces. When we put the replacement quarters on we will use some panel bond in that area and a few spot welds that can be reached from inside the car below the quarter panel window area.
