How do I remove the shoulder harnesses?
They have a plastic piece over the attachment and I do not want to break the plastic in case it is dry rotted.

I am switching them out of Ginger. Kitty's are black and incorrect.:1zhelp:

And refresh my memory about cleaning them.
Thanks!
Judy

Kitty, I'd love to help, but...I just have the bolts, minus plastic, and thats about it. Sorry.

On a 69, you slide the belt up until the cover and belt are vertical to th bolt and insert a T50 torx socket to remove the bolt. On a 72, I have no idea.

Yeah, the torx fitting is pretty much standard.
For Dry rotted plastic, squirt it with STP sonofagun or something like it and let it soak in a couple of days. Then, wrench away.
To clean em, use a bucket filled with laundry detergent and oxy clean. My girlriend is a costumer for theatre (meaning she knows more than any human should know about fibers) and says it's the way to go. I used it on my seatbelts when I put white seats in my 70 and it worked like a charm.
Bleach based cleaners will weaken the vinyl based webbing.
IMHO: Those belts suck. I took mine out and am replacing them with 5 point harnesses.
