My son gets his wheels in about 30 days. The good news is he offered to take my 95 Escort, bad news is I needed to find a new set of go to work wheels. In keeping in mind I want to aquire a project Cougar, I didnt want to spend alot for a work car but didnt want to end up with a unrelialbe piece of junk either.

I ended up picking up a one owner 95 Merc Tracer 4 dr 5 spd. 51k actuall miles with 4 BRAND new tires and front brakes. Body has a couple minor scratches but no rust. Runs and drives like a new one and had the owners maint records available. Gave 2k for it out the door taxes included. I havent paid too much attention to used car prices but I dont think that it was too bad a deal?? I drive alot of miles to work so the fuel economy will be needed. And with 5 vehicles to insure now you cant get one much cheaper to insure.

At least the wife cant say much if I come across another Cougar as I didnt spend much on the work car. Whatta you think? mm

doesnt sound like a bad deal at all. might go for more out here. but the comment about " no rust" is one that is almost NEVER a concern with a car that new out here. that comment is reserved for pre-80 vehicles and anything from the 60s to actually mean something.

sounds like a good deal Mark. Its best to get a car for the commute if you have a distance. Was nice of your son to take the Escort "off your hands" . huh?

What year project will you get?

Hey Mark,
Sounds like a decent deal but I have to wonder... If your son is taking the 95 escort and you bought a 95 tracer it doesn't seem like you gained anything or lost anything for that matter. Isn't it like trading a taurus for a sable or something like that? Why hot keep the escort and buy a cougar thats $2000 more valuable?

John, if I kept the Escort, I would then have to buy the kid a caranyway, so it works out the same. I told all the kids I would get them there first car, but its up to them for the insurarance, maintenece etc. I'm still shocked the son jumped up and run with the chance to take the Escort since its a station wagon. He said that wagons are cool and it gives him alot of room for subs? Dont know what the hell he's talking about!!LOL

He needs to be able to drive himself to school so he can participate in the sports he wants to take and drive himself home so we dont have to make all the extra trips picking him up. Besides he has a job lined up and needs the transpotation.

Personally I hated the 4cyl automatic, what a slug. ( just perfect to keep a 16 yo out of alot of trouble) The Tracer is much better with the 5 spd and should do better on gas. I was actually looking for a taurus or sable but I thought this was the best deal for the money.

Crazy, I'm looking to find a 69 or (gasp) 70. Been watching all the local papers and found several deals on 67 or 68's. Nothing against them at all but I want the other body style for the pro street style project.mm

Well, I have to agree on the 69. I really love my 67, but I bought it before checking out the 69 style. At the time I had seen the 70 , and thought that 69 was the same. No snaggletooth!

Watch out for your son Mark! subs=subframes . He's going to take after his gearhead dad and drag race the wagon!
Just slap the cosworth motor in and there you go. :D

Yeah the apple dosen't fall far from the tree!! He came in the other day showing me a 80 Fairmont wagon that had a 5.0, FI, 5 speed, mags and nice paint. He thought it was the coolest,( I tend to agree with him) and they only wanted like 3k for it. His mom put the kabosh to it before I even got there.

His taking the Escort reson partially is his plans for a cool cruiser in the next couple years. He knows he cant have a Cougar, Maverik,Mustang or such for a daily driver.

In the meantime he can race the Escort lol 0-6 in what 5 minutes? But the 30mpg helps make it worth it. mm

Check my boy out. And he is only 2. He gets way too excited when he gets near my tool box. His first words were "nut" and "bolt".

Mark,

I think the "SUBS" he is refering to are " SUB WOOFERS " - He is obviously planning a monster stereo, and all of the room in the rear of the wagon makes one hell of a speaker box!! <lol>

tell me about it. He gets more excited by going to Home Depot than Toys R Us. Just the other day I bought him a 3/4" x 8" bolt w/ 3/4" nut and he loves it!

"you can look at my Snap-on Tools, but please dont ask to borrow"

I've got that sticker on my tool box. he wont listen though.
