I have a 1968 302 cougar Engine was built and they installed a mild street cam.
I blocked off all the vacuum lines
Set the Dwell 30 and timing 12 degrees only have 13½-14" hg

New Exhaust,tried another carburetor

My question: What can I spray around the manifold to check for
leaks? Hate to use carb cleaner because of fire hazard.

I was going to suggest a propane torch (not lit) on a low setting, but that is a fire hazard too, perhaps less of one though...

I don't know that carb cleaner is all that flammable..? Never had any trouble....although I like the propane test because it's less messy and doesn't hurt anything (YET!), but I suppose there is the possability if you have enough build up and something happened to spark. Guess I've been lucky! Just be cautious and work slowly. Don't let any fumes build up, you should be ok. I use a little length of eubber tube on the end of the torch so I can really narrow down where I want to test. It doesn't take much to find it....
