This is what it looked like before the tear down.

What started out as a simple shock tower removal turned into this.

Independent front suspension with R+P steering.
Four link rear, 9” with 31 spline axles.
HAL coil overs.
Wilwood 13” discs at all corners with dual bore billet calipers.
Konig Villians chromed and Dunlop 9000's. Size 18x8 with 245/40 and 18x9 with 275/35.

Looks like you have a very severe case of the *wiai syndrom
*(while I'm at it)

Looks great though!

I liked the way it started out, looked nice. I am sure it will be even better looking once it is all done. I too like the looks of the older tires and wheels. What are they? Are they for sale now that you are not going to use them on the car?

Thanks for the kind words guys.
The wheels are Enkei 62's, new back in 1985.
They have been sitting in my garage since the tear down.
The project has been on hold since 2001.
Health and monetary issues are to blame.
I hoping to restart this year or next.

Very cool buildup. :)

A question for you ... did the rear inner wheelwells have to be "massaged" at all for the 275 tires? I have 245/45/18 mounted on 9" wheels on the rear of mine, and it's very close. Those tires are about an inch taller than what you have though, which would account for some of it.

cheers

I was waiting for that question.
I have about a 1/2" clearance on either side.
No modifications to the body, however I chose a wheel wth a deeper back space than stock.
Per my suspension builders suggestion for better handling (and as newer suspensions are designs).
I believe I'm close th a 1999 Mustang now.
I chose 6-1/4" rear and 5-3/4" front, then had the suspension built to fit.
I was worried until the test fit but all was perfect.
I guess all my measurments were good.

Tire height is 25.7" front and rear with the 18" wheels.
Tire height was 24.5 front and rear with the 14" Enkies.
I believe stock was around 26" with the original F78x14's.

OK, so the wheels you chose basically were set up for 94 - 04 Mustang backspacing, I see. :)

My 9" wheels are 5-1/2" backspacing. I could use a touch more to keep them in the fender lips, around 5-3/4" probably would have been perfect. In hindsight I might have been better off ordering the 6-1/4" b.s. version, and using some thin spacers to bring them out.

cheers

Is the four link something custom or a kit? I've been looking at the Air Ride Technologies 4 link system but damn it's expensive! I think your definitely on the right track! I'm at the point where I need all of the expensive suspension components, steering, brakes, wheels/tires, etc. so mine has come to a screeching halt.

It was custom made for my application by Jim Meyer Racing Products, 1-800-824-1752.
He's located in Oregon.
The same goes for the front suspension.
He's a good guy and easy to work with.

Nice to see another car like this. I went ahead and put in a cage though because of racing but also to help keep the front frame rails in place. Nice job.

I would love to see some more pics and details about the t-bird rack and pinion installion (numbers too if you have them like ackerman).

also is this being setup for more drag, open track, or autocross?

What sort of numbers are you gettin on the suspention? Anti squat, instant center, roll center, scrub radious, etc?

thanks and very nice project.

Purnlow, I gotta see more of yours.
I was considering a flip front too.

352Ford, I'll have to get those specs from my builder.
I have no more pics of the R+P.
That's were I stopped and it may change.
The car will be a driver and possible autocross and road course car.
