I am looking for some info on replacement shackle bushings for aggressive driving. I noticed the smaller diameter of the bushings and leafspring eyes as compared to the same year mustang. 1969 by the way. I am aware of the difference in the length of the leafs. but I dont think that should matter. Thanks in advance for any leads.

Rear leaf spring bushings

The rear leaf spring bushings should be the same between Mustangs and Cougars. I've used the Mustang parts in my cars before. Actually the correct original OEM parts for your Cat have Mustang part numbers! They use the same front bushings, rear bushings and shackles. The only difference in the springs themselves are the longer length for the Cougars.

What might be confusing you is the normal stock bushings are shaped like mushrooms. The big head just gives it more bearing surface against the sideplates. Some of the aftermarket polyeurethane bushings have a smaller head, but the actual bore size/bushing diameter is the same.
