Id say 3.50 is max for a street car that see's highway use as well. I have 3.25 in my Fairlane 390, and its great for my type of driving (everywhere). If you see little or no highway, go with a 3.73 or so, that'll wake it up.

3.50s be plentiful enough gearing for the stret and highway. At 3.73s the vehicle will be screamin for a OD

I ran 3.70s in my 69 with the 351C and FMX.
Speedo equaled tach x 2/100.
At 60 MPH I was taching about 3000 RPM.
