My headliner trim piece that separates the headliner and runs the length around the top of the inside side windows is coming off. Looking at it, it just seems to be a friction fit. My mechanic told me to hold the piece back in position and use a hair dryer to heat the molding and get it to stay in position. Is this the method used to put and hold these trim pieces in place?

trim

It is old I assume, with mine I took it all off.Ths sounds crude but it worked.Lay it on a clean surface take a rubber mallet cover it with a clean rag and tap it flat.then start at one end and use the mallet to gently tap it back on.You my want to get new ones too.You can buy it by the foot with some interior venders.

The stuff you buy by the foot is for non - XR-7. The technique of beating the channel with a hammer will work though to tighten up the grip on your original trim.
