My Cougar has a non-standard radiator cap fitted (by a previous owner) and even though the car doesn't run that hot it blows water out of the rad overflow when you switch off the engine.

I suspect that the spring may not be long enough to fully engage the bottom seal in the neck of the radiator.

Can someone please provide the length measurement of the sprung seal of a standard cap so I can try and locate a suitable replacement (the diameter may also be useful).

The current cap is rated at 15lb max pressure. I have even purchased a new cap thinking that the old cap may have weakened but the same thing happens.

Thanks guys
