Ok folks, bought a new pwr steering pump and it didn't come with a pulley. So I pulled the old pulley off and had it blasted and painted. Now for the question of the day....when I went to pull the pully off with the puller, it had a allen nut thing covering the shaft. I couldn't figure how to get it off, so I preceeded to use the puller and get the pulley off, minus the hex nut (which is now stuck in the old ps pump shaft. Do I need this thing when I replace the puley? Is it just a dust cover? Is it threaded? Please advise. Thanks

The hex is cut into the shaft. I have never heard of anyone using it for anything, (maybe to install/remove pump guts?) and I have always pressed the pulley on and off.
