I have a 1987 cougar with a V6.
Does the pulley on the power steering pump supposed to have any play in it? I can move it in and out and it moves a fraction of an inch.
I have been told that it is normal, and also that it is not supposed to have any play at all...
I had the power steering pump replaced a few months ago by a napa shop. I was doing maintenance on my car(replacing the idler pulley and serpintine belt) the other day and noticed the pulley on the power steering pump had a little bit of play. My idler pulley bearings were shot and the belt was frayed and i was thinking that the pulley on the power steering pump could have caused it because of that play.
