Admittedly, I'm not the best mechanic, but I'm learning - usually the hard way. I need to replace the oil pan gasket on my 69 XR7 351W. I removed the cross member under the pan and all of the bolts are removed. The pan is loose, now how do I get it out? Does the engine have to be lifted? Or does all of the suspension linkage have to be removed?

My memory is failing. I did this some time ago, but don't remember exactly. I know that lifting engine was not needed. I think I just removed the cross member, and then dropped the steering by removing the idler arm from the frame, leaving everything else connected.

I just took out the bolts on mine and it came right off.

Of course mine is on an engine stand too. :)

I have done it in the car too. MrEos is right. Makes for more room to get the pan out.
