OK, 1968 non XR7 cougar. Duraspark distributor, changed out the Ford box for a MSD 6a. My question is this. I have an aftermarket tachometer. Can I still power the tach with the negative coil terminal, or do I have to run the tach adapter? The tach adapter port looks like nothing more than a spade connector, is that all it is?

I have a Druaspark/MSD setup in my 393W Crown Vic. It also has an aftermarket tach. I simply ran the lonog tach wire to the tach lead on the MSD unit. Works like a charm! Of course, your aftermarket tach might work differently, so check the wiring diagram that came with it. Mine is just the cheapie one from Summit (copy of a Sun).

So the tach lead out from the MSD box is in fact just a spade fitting?

Perfect. The 68 will be roadworthy again today! Fire it up this afternoon, and then retorque the heads, and then trip for a new front end alignment! I can't wait to find out how harsh this thing will stop, with new disc brakes and no proprotioning valve...
