I have a '67 Cougar with manual steering and the steering box is completely shot. The code on the steering box is SMB-C. This box was only used in 1967 (I think it was only used on earlier '67's). I originally wanted to find a rebuilt one, but everybody I've contacted does not carry one and wants to rebuild the one I have. I really don't want to send in the old one, as it would probably get lost in shipping. I have located a couple of used SMB-D boxes. They were made from '67 through '70. The SMB-D box has a 1 1/8" shaft and the SMB-C has a 1" shaft. Does anybody know if the SMB-D box would fit on my car if I got the Pitman arm to match it? Any help would be appreciated.
