I need to know, is the lower padded dash panel (the one that surrounds the gauges and says "Cougar" on it), interchangable between 67 and 68 models. It looks the same, but are the fasteners, etc. the same?
If it looks thesame it probably is the same. The padded face on standard Cougars (body code 91, trim code 65A) was the same from beginning to end in 1967. In 1968 they used some left over 1967 pads, then cme out with one which had some horizontal ribs in the pad. Late in the year the exposed screws were deleted in favor of hidden clips holding the trim in place.
I have a 68 with a Dec 67/Jan 68 build date and it had the standard 68 dash pad. Do what Royce says and check your dash. I bought the chrome piece that the pad attaches to and later discovered I had a 67. Unfortunately, the 67 dash pad screwed in and the 68 has connections that are pushed into the chrome backer. AND the push pins do not align with the screw mounts.
