My wife found me a black 69 year tag for my car that was in decent condition but could have been a little better, I thought. I'm currently making a tire/table for my garage and in the heat of the moment took my rotary sander to the tag in an effort to remove a little bit of the rust from around the edges of the tag.
Well one thing led to another and before I could stop myself I had removed a great deal of the paint from the tag and the letters as well. Now the tag looks like crap. I saw an ad for a guy who restores vintage tags in a magazine I was browsing thru a few days ago but I can't justify spending $80 for a license plate refurb.
Anyone know of a cheaper option or should I just try to fix it myself? Lastly, if I do try this "AT HOME" is there a specific paint for license plates that I'd have to use?
