Weeeeellll guys, I'm totally stoked, my pops is helping me transport my '68 to Missoula in a few weeks! After 2 years of my poor kitty sitting under a tarp, I'll finally come to realization of my dream! Going through zillions of sawzall discs, sandpaper, tetnus shots, and doctor bills.

Many pics to come, I have curious, and strange ideas! I'm still planning to shoe-horn a lincoln navigator engine into her, weld up a custom manifold with 8 throttle bodies ala la webber/hemi style -- only fuel injected, and supercharged.

Been playing around with the idea of giving the cougar a fast-back, only I'm not going to use metal, but glass. Maybe I will go with the rear-engine idea, maybe not. Ya know those early cudas and mid 80-90 camaros with glass hatches? It'll be something along those lines -- AND the interior, white with black. Chrome, wood and blue LEDs. Exterior's either going to be a BMW purple with silver, and black highlights, blacked out chrome parts, or a glossy jet black with smoothed out chrome trim. Fabricated angel eyes, custom grill that follows true to the shape of a 68, but a little more clean looking.

So much $$$, but so much fun! Can't wait :)

Have you considered how the 'glass is going to crack under the torque of your driveline? Please tell us this isn't your first attempt at a restoration. The rusty McCrusty title suggests you're trying to do all this to a rusty vehicle.....

Given the history, I would like to offer a little advice: Less talk and more walk. In other words, speak about what you are actually doing (and do something) rather than an endless string of blathering posts/threads about your latest George Jetson Whizbang ideas. If you look back on your posting history, there is an obvious pattern, this is what I am talking about.

I certainly like out of the box thinking, but mental masturbation in public gets old.

Regards,

Bob

Presenting... the Cougvairo! Seriously, though, I think some of those ideas are simply ridiculous. Not trying to discourage innovation, but perhaps if you set your sights on something more obtainable, you might actually see it through to completion.

I can't add anything else other than my thoughts were VERY ACCURATELY summed up in posts #2-#7.

If you are going to waste all that money don't mess up a usable Cougar, instead buy a Pinto, pin an Edsel tail on it and saddle it with back glass of your choice. Now that makes about as much sense.

Gee, guys you sure are harsh on me for bench talking. I didn't have the car here yet, but now it's finally in the garage. I am going to try to get a sander and grinder from a friend and tackle that rust. I am torn between selling it and digging in, excluding all my exuberant modification ideas and just get it running/fixed/painted.

Think I can pull it off on a budget? Rattle can paint, borrowing tools, smuggling sheet metal from the junk yard?

Edit: honestly its unfair to me, as I never had a place to work on it. No garage back at my parents, now I do have one. All's I could do was talk about fun ideas.

I seriously doubt you could do all that on a 'budget' (which you haven't stated how much yet). This whole project will depend on your skills and tools available. Since you said you were going to 'weld up a custom manifold' I SHOULD assume that you are a competent welder however I won't assume anything based on your previous posts.

So are you really going to go through all this work to change the structure of the car and then rattle can it? That is a complete waste of your time and whatever money you spend on it. I agree with jshcobra, set your sights on something attainable and you will be pleased with the outcome. I also agree with Bob, start walking instead of talking.

Also, considering you are asking everyones opinion on your 'project' you need to be able to listen the advice that people are giving you.

You need to gravitate back to the center...your getting way out there...let's examine this for one minute....you try to make all these things (like the manifold) and then just like the rest of us...sooner or later you need to find parts or worse yet out on the road enjoying your "Frankencar" and all of a sudden it quits running...say just a fouled spark plug, do you plan on carrying a life support unit with you all the time? Just saying.... Much like this poor soul had an idea to make something neat too, the neighbors laughed him out of the neighborhood and he had to install an anti-egg tossing shield to protect himself...

I'm trying to refrain here (yeah, like that'll work), but do you not see the bizarre dichotomies that come out of your (figurative) mouth here? Big bucks, fabricated intake, fuel injected, supercharged, mid-engine, beyond "I've been watching too much Speed TV" - type ideas and then something like this: "Rattle can paint, borrowing tools, smuggling sheet metal from the junk yard". "I'm selling, no wait, I'm building the next space-shuttle". Put down that Isopropyl you been swiggin' and take a look at it objectively, I mean really.

Nothing says :bong: like disjointed statements such as these to the community. Do you really feel people are being hard on you? I don't think so, not at all given what has been blathered. Are you getting this McFly? :bloated:

I take no pleasure in telling you this.

Okay, I lied. I enjoy the hell out of it. Thanks for the opportunity. :buck:

Like I said son, more walk and less talk. You'd be surprised what people will get behind and be supportive of, if someone actually does something...

Parody?

Am I missing something here? Let me throw a guess out there. I could be going out on a limb with this but I think your thread was intended to parody someone else’s thread. I mean Journal of a mad-man: The rusty mcrustbucket chronicles looks like an idea used by another member. A medicated version yes but an attempt nonetheless. Anybody know someone like that or is Logan extending memberships from Jupiter? :martian:

Found a clean body no rust/dents and in primer for $400 with no title, guts or glass. I so hope I get it, this would save me on $1,500 worth of sheet metal and I could actually start on getting it running. Argh, pray for me!
