I have a 68 xr7 that will only run when you jump the voltage regulator with a screwdriver from the positive side stud to the starter stud. It ran before and died and wont' start again until you put a screwdriver to those posts. I have replaced the ignition switch with a motorcraft switch and the voltage regulator. any help would be appreciated.

Since it's an XR7 you want to check the tach by bypassing it....QUICK TEST would be a jumper wire from the +12V post somewhere, to the + side of the coil. You will have to disco the wire of course but it will tell the tach is bad/good. Willy nilly swapping parts isn't going to help - troubleshoot it, then replace if need need be. Do a search on ignition circuit, you will find some good info/schematics. My money is on a bad tach....
