Well I have tried to remove the trim ring and the foam horn pad is soft. I managed to damage the Chrome ring a little and still no progress. glad I have a replacement. Not sure how this thing comes apart. Any help?

This is the way I removed the trim ring when I replaced mine.
I used a few 5 cent coins.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com<img src=" /><o:p></o:p>
Wedge the first coin between the trim ring and pad. Then the second coin about an inch away and the third...etc. It should pop right off. <o:p></o:p>
When you install the new one, work it on slowly as you move around the pad.<o:p></o:p>

Thanks for the help. Any pointers on how to remove the clear plastic to put in the new emblem? It seems to be pressed in but I tried a screwdriver and it dents the foam and starts putting in stress cracks on the clear plastic piece. Any pointers? Thanks again.

seams to me that i went in from the wheel side and cut the vinyl divider that is below the emblem----putting a screw driver handle in from the wheel sidr helped to remove the emblim

So anybody have a pointer for removing the plastic center? Seems like it wants to crack before it will come out.
Thanks.

You are correct, very hard to remove without breaking. If it is a bad emblem who cares if it breaks when you take it out? If it is good then why take it out? The new ones will be about $40 and will be on our site next week.

Agreed. I was just trying to remove the clear plastic cover without cracking it since that is still good. The emblem is junk and will be thrown away when I purchase a new one. I should have been more clear, sorry. I'm beginning to think this is something people don't replace.

well, tried to remove the plastic lens piece that covers the steering wheel emblem without cracking it- wasnt successful. Split it right down the middle. I guess that is expected being its 45 years old! Removed the old emblem with ease. I had a new chrome ring that goes around the horn pad and I had a terrible time removing that ring. Using nickels didnt budge mine. I think my pad has expanded or something over the years, I have read its not supposed to be touch to get off. It was brutal. I ended up using my dremel and cutting the old ring- then peeled it off. There was no way it was coming off. To put the new one on I had to run the foam pad under very hot water and then soap it up. The I just pushed as hard as I could to get it on. Cant believe how tight it was to put on, took about 45 minutes and did a lot of cussing, but did finally snap it into place.
I taped off the chrome ring and now painting the foam pad black after filling in some dings, etc. Also removed the chrome horn 3 a spoke things and repainted the vinyl black strips that are on that.
The steering wheel had 2 large cracks on the black plastic (back of wheel). Just used PC-7 epoxy and filled it. Sanded smooth then used bondo glazing putty to make it even smoother and will be painting black tomorrow.

Just need to have Don start selling those steering wheel emblems/clear plastic and Im good to go. Thanks for the help-
