I have a 1967 Mercury Cougar base with a factory 289e and a 4speed tranny. I recently swapped out Carbs from the stock to a Carter High Performance 600. I noticed that on the high way, before, my RPMS would be roughly around 2500-2700 running at about 65 MPH. Now at 60-65 MPH I notice my RPMS are at about 3000. If I try to push 70 or so, it climbs to 3500 and it almost feels like the car wants to shift again, but of course that is not possible. Sorry for the newbie questions, first project.

Is his normal? Should I be worried?

Would the swap do something like this or should I start checking other possible issues?

If so, where should I start?
