If you supply the door tag numbers more info is readily available.

That is a bogus VIN number, they made far fewer 1971 Cougars than 92,000. Please don't turn that into the National Data Base.

they said it had a vinyl hard top but they replaced it with a regular one, how can i find out what the original vinyl color was? Thanks!!!

The body buck tag normally has that information. Called out as a color on the end of the second line.

Buck tag is located on the radiator core support, can be on either side. Look for a black painted tag beside the headlights behind the grille.
