I am a new owner of a 1981 Mercury Cougar, and it is in decent shape. I bought it from a tow yard, and it drove well the first day, but when I tried to start it up the day after, the engine wouldn't start. It turns over, and it starts when I give it some gas, and it stays on when I keep some pressure on the gas, but when I let go of the gas pedal, it dies. I think it's the idle. How would I set the idle higher? (I don't have the manual, and just need to get it higher so I can drive to a mechanics for oil, and tune-up) I am not a mechanic, but I can follow directions, with pictures. RTFMs (with link) are welcome. Thanks for your help.
