Hi guys,

I purchased my 1968 Cougar about 3 weeks now so I am still getting familiar with some parts of the car.

First what is this part for?
CIRCLE in REDs

Second part is this, I went to install a bigger AIR cleaner on top of the carburetor only to have this part interfere so I want to know whats this for? It only has 3 hoses connected to it so is there a way to relocated?

2)

Thank you!

The first handle looks like it is for a manual choke perhaps?

Second is a vacuum tree fitting (and I see 4 hoses). You could use a different fitting, or a right angle elbow to get it out of the way of a larger air cleaner.

Welcome to the forum, if you haven't yet, let us know what your car is!

Regards,

Bob

The knob in first pic opens the driver side air vent.

In the second pic, there looks like there might be a plug in the carb baseplate for a vacuum fitting. Kinda hard to tell for sure from the pic... Anyway, if it is, you can use that to run a 3/8" vacuum line to a vacuum 'tree' that mounts to the firewall and put a pipe plug in the hole in the manifold where your current tree is.
