Ok, so I was out this weekend testing out my new suspension right? Decided to have a little fun a sidestepped the clutch on a backroad with nobody else around and BANG! Lost my clutch! So there I am, clutch pedal stuck to the floor right? My car and I limp back home to assess the damages.

I totally lost the clutch, I have to get a new throwout bearing, pressure plate, clutch disc, pilot bushing and pilot bushing tool as well as a new flywheel!

Does anyone no of any body that has these parts, I would like to go high performance but I can't wait 4-6 weeks to get the parts delivered. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if anyone has a flywheel that will work for a toploader and a 289 I am looking to buy.

Thanks!

check the adjustment rod, I had the same problem with my 69 and found that I had bent the rod itself.
good luck

Order a clutch from Jegs or Summit. A centerforce is a very nice clutch. I bet someone has a flywheel? All should be shipped and in your handsl by next Friday.

It's not a bent rod... The PO did not take care of this car at all. I can get all my parts except my flywheel at Mustangs Plus (they are two blocks away from my house!). It turns out that they have the parts I need in stock but it's all OEM specs. I wanted to go a little more high performance. The motor is not stock and I am afraid that if I drive the car hard that the stock replacement pieces will not last. I will look into Summit and Jegs tonight.

Could some 4speed owners give me some feedback about parts you have used in the past or are currently using?

I am getting ready to put a 4-speed back into my 69 cat and bought an aluminum racing flywheel for better performance and crankshaft bearing longevity. 157 tooth and a high torque mini-starter to match. ( these were for my 67 289 racer) However, I may have to go with the 164 tooth set if I want to use it for my 69 351w cougar. Not sure yet. I will be asking a top loader transmission specialist if the 157 tooth will be OK for my 69 351w.
If I can't use them on the 351w then I will probably sell them to get the other set for the 351w. If you check back with me tomorrow I may know something. Cougrrrman

By the way, what exactly did you do to all those parts?
Seems like you would not have damaged all at the same time.
How did they break and in what way?

Not what I did to those parts, what the PO did!

Let's see, the throwout bearing is now pitched sideways, the clutch disc is down to the rivets, the flywheel is gone (teeth missing), and the pressure plate has been scarred!

I only drove the car from the PO's house to my house and then out to my dad's place. I hadn't really had a chance to test the tranny out so I had no idea that it was that bad off to begin with. I am also going to replace the bushings for the shifter and linkage as well.

Now I just have to get the parts! Wanted to get it done this wekend but it looks like that isn't going to happen!

Let me know if those parts are going to be for sale Cougrrrman, and out of curiosity, what is the difference between the 157 and 164 tooth flywheels? (besides the number of teeth!)

To my understanding as long as it is a small block flywheel with 157 teeth it'll work for my application Mike! Are all the teeth in good condition? Does it need to be resurfaced?

Flywheel core

James:
looks like all mine is good for, is a core , needs to be reringed and resurfaced , though surface is good.

There are several teeth in a row that have been hummed, on one side. If you need it , let me know $ 50. should cover it , & shipping from UT
