Logan,
I was browsing back through some old threads, and noticed you are using a MSD distributor. We must be on somewhat on the same wavelength, it sounds like what I'm trying to do with my convertible, you have already done. I don't know how generous with your knowledge you are, so I'll tell you what I have done (and plan on doing) with mine, and see if I can pry some hints or other useful info from you.
It is a 69 XR7 convertible, 351W 2V with FMX & air. The plan for the car was to be a project for me and my son-who wanted to be a mechanic (if he couldn't be a race car driver). I had the car for about 5 years, and never got the chance to do much with it (other than purchase restoring items - carpet, weatherstrip, top etc.). Well, the son grew up and moved out and I finally decided to get going on the car. Since my mechanic (my son went to Vo-Tech, for automechanics) moved away, I decided that if the motor and tranny were going to get rebuilt, someone else was going to have to do it. I had the local NAPA shop rebuild the motor and a transmission shop rebuild the transmission. I picked out the cam, intake, carb and headers for the motor, and the NAPA guy (who is a big motorhead) suggested a MSD ready to run distributor. The intake is an Edelbrock Performer as is the carb (600 with electric choke). Hooker Comp headers.
Now with the MSD distributor, my factory air cleaner doesn't fit, does yours? Edelbrock has a Signature series, but I'm not sure the 14" will clear the distributor. Summit Racing has a 13" Ford Racing air cleaner that should work (even has the PCV hoe adapter). Any ideas on either of those? And what about height restrictions? I'd also like to know what size wheel and tires will fit under the fenders. I'm planning on going with the 15" Magnum 500 wheels, but, what is the max size tires you can get too with out hitting (especially up front).
Any other help you (or anybody else) can provide, and pitfalls to avoid, would be appreciated. Sorry for the lengthy post.
