What parts on the suspension need to be greased regularly, or not so regularly, on the 70 and 72. I guess this sounds like a stupid question but it is something I never thought of till Bob mentioned that I can use the same grease for something as I use for other parts, and it suddenly hit me that that could be reason why both cars squeak and creak and groan etc........

Also, what type of grease, not brand names, as they won't help me, but the general term for the grease.

It should be the same on all cars. That is, upper and lower ball joints and A-frame shaft bushings. Go ahead and hit the steering at the same time. Inner and outer tie rods, PS hydraulic control valve, idler arm, and PS ram. Note that of these parts may not have grease ports installed. Basically, every place you can find a grease zerk. I use the standard medium duty grease that comes in the tubes for my grease gun.
