Just took this one out of storage.

We purchased this 67 Std Cougar in 1997 from the original owner. I was looking for a Cougar and she wanted one too. So I found this one for her. Jamaican Yellow, Comfort Weave Interior. AC,PS,PDB Am radio. 289 A-code.

The owner told me he had a new vinyl roof put on and the car has been "Florida Weather Proofed". I looked at the job that was done. It didn't look too bad but they changed the drip rail a little and the seams are a little crooked. Now you know if a new vinyl goes on the front and back window have to come out.
I didn't like the way they put in the window rubber and the chrome revel doesn't fit like it should.

The car is now getting the Florida Water Test. Today is the third day I'm letting it sit out in the steady rain.
It hasn't felt rain in 25 years. When this storm is over later today the car will have about 4 inches poured on it.
Then I'll check for leaks. If it's dry then I'll start working on getting it back on the road.

It finally quit raining and the sun came out. I got my inspection camera and checked the vinyl top trim holes. Checked the firewall, floor pans under the carpet, windshield and rear window. No condensation inside. Wow, can't believe there were no leaks.

Now this cat will get everything it needs to get back on the road and then some. One thing it's going to get is a Ford 3-Speed Auto - Gearvendors

I'm starting to go over the car to check its condition. The cat has not been started for over 20 years. That comes much later. I'm currently replacing the brakes. I've temporarily installed Kelsey Hayes LIKE disc brakes until I rebuild the originals. Here's a picture to compare. notice the way the body is cut and how the crossover line is run. I prefer the Kelsey Hayes over the repops.

While waiting for some brake parts I decided to pull the gas tank and have a look. (YUCK!) Should have drained that gas years ago. It was alcohol gas. The inside of the tank is rusted and take a look at the sending unit, wow!
New tank and sending unit, clean the rest of the fuel line and change the fuel pump and filter before I even think about trying to start it up.

My '68 XR7 has been sitting for years with the same crappy fuel. Now, I know what the fuel tank looks like inside. Where did you get your new tank and sending unit?
I can't really recommend anyone now since I bought my parts over 20 years ago. I would suggest that you do a little research on both.
The gas tanks come in different styles, and so do the sending units. It depends on what you want and how much you want to spend.
For the gas tank, do you want a drain hole and the correct location of the stiffening ribs? More $$.
For the sending unit, I would have the OEM rebuilt. I'm going to have that one rebuilt and use it if the one I have doesn't work correctly.

If your sending unit looks like that you should change the fuel pump and clean the gas line too.

What's strange, I just sold a 68 roller I bought in 1976. I had it stored with the 67. That one was sitting so long it still had leaded gas in it.
That tank was a lot cleaner.

I bought my '68 XR7 in 1994 as a running "pos", bad brakes, bad steering, bald tires and a few dents but all there and little rust in the usual places.

Post some pictures. When I started looking for a Cougar, I wanted a XR7 but could never find one I liked. I ended up with a 67 Bench seat 390 GT.
