My drivers side door has never set flush, always somewhat open, Im guessing due to the fact the door latch pin is rusted out and just sitting in there. The rust is pretty bad since the door never sits closed. My question is, I know I can cut and mount a new plate, but if the whole panel is shot, whats my other choice?

Are you talking about the door striker and the door jamb it mounts in being rusted? Your description is somewhat vague. If I am correct, the other (and probably best) choice is to replace the door jamb, I had to replace both of mine on my convertible which was at one time under salt water.

Pictures would help a lot here.

Are you talking about needing these?:

I would cut and weld them in, not just leave them on top like this.
You can also adjust your striker (on the quarter panel jamb) inwards a little bit. If the striker or latch themselves are sloppy, they may just need to be replaced. You shouldn't have to slam the door, and it should sit completely flush in the back.
