Hello everyone!
My 67 has a 71 mustang 302 (according to the PO) in it.
I found a small plate mounted to the intake. It had broken off and I found it "by accident".
It says:
302 C 71 9
O-K K272

I guess this tells med that it's a '71 302. but what else does this tell me?

I looked at Engine specs at FoMoCo.com and I couldn't find any C-code 302 from 71... the closest I got was code F.

Shouldn't the plate say "302 F 71..." in that case?

Do I have to look up the castingnumbers to know what exactly I've got. (like to know CR etc...)

Pretty Much it's telling you

* Engine Displacement =302 = 302cid

* Manufacture Plant =C = Cleveland, Ohio engine Plant

* Change Level =9 = was used to track changes, the #'s changed for each major modification. For example; on earlier engines when Ford changed from black engine paint to corporate blue, or from 5 bolt bellhousing to 6, etc (Couldn't tell you about any changes on the newer (post 69) engines.

* Model Year =71 =1971

* Date Code =0-K = First digit is a Zero, Letter is the month

* Engine Code =K272

Hope this helps

Thanks, that cleared up a few questionmarks.
So then I need to get some info on the enginecode K272 to know what I have.

Anyone who knows what the specs are on this?
Is it the F-code engine I mentioned before?

Ulf,
That is correct, it is a 210 horsepower 302 - 2V engine.
