Listing already removed. Wonder what happened? Couldn't have been just the poor spelling...

I'm still able to navigate to the link.

I emailed him for Marti / Eliminator docs, as well as a few basic questions. - he replied that it is a documented Eliminator, and provided a phone number.

Wouldnt it cost 75K or so to restore that car the right way ???
If you paid someone to do the work, your figure is probably about right on. It would probably be worth about $100K when done so at least you wouldn't loose any money on the deal.

cj123,

The 390 Cubic Inch car you mention looks like it could be decent but it probably depends on the condition it's in. Others can chime in but 390 cars will not be worth near as much as a 428 car. 390's were only offered in '69. I'd definately look at this car if you interested to make sure of the rust situation. I would probably have looked at this car this past weekend as I was in Michigan for the 4th however I really want a '70.

cj123, I don't think they ever made a 390 car with factory ram air. Get a marti report on that one!

I agree. He might have had the dealer add it, or done it himself. Looking at the pics it needs at least a little body work, but appears to have some patina to it.

As for Geoff's car(s), and the Comp Green one, I'm holding out for a 4-speed car myself. But even so, at this point it has to run and drive 'cuz I have no space to dedicate to a full-on project.

The CJ / 4spd car is probably about the right condition for what I'm looking for and could handle currently (given the potential to "restore as you go"), but I think it is gonna end up priced / bid beyond my (meager) budget. I doubt the wife would let me dip that far into the family budget even for something that would potentially be a sound investment.
I wonder if the seller would consider an '03 Cobra Convertible as an "interesting trade"....

cj123,

I'd try and contact the guy with the orange one for 50k or best offer in Michigan. He contacted me back as I was up there this weekend. He had family problems so was out of commision for a while he said in his email to me. He emailed me too late though as I had made other plans for the trip. Give him another try. He sent me a few more pics and it looks like a nice car.

Ebay CJ car has underside pics now, and Marti report.

Seller says block is dated Jan '69, but car build date is Apr / May '70. So probably not the original engine. Can anyone tell from the pics whether or not the engine is actually a 428CJ?

Other than the floor patches, the body doesn't look bad in the pics.

Jeff is right. By the time you pay to have a 428CJ restored to concours quality you will be into it at least $100K. Unless you happen to find a car that is rust free and dirt cheap. I've always advised customers who come looking for a ground up restorations that unless the car is very rare, or it has great sentimental value you are better off buying one that is done. Case in point - when I decided to restore my 428CJ I should have taken my own advice. Together with the cost of the car I am over $100K into it. And that does not take into account my time. Granted it is stunning but now I'm afraid to drive it. After finishing it last year I have put 1.8 miles on it. Most of those in and out of a trailer! I've had a few on this forum who want me to take it to Barrett Jackson but I just don't have the nerve. Without a reserve anything could happen. If anyone knows someone with very deep pockets and wants one of the best around give me a call and we can talk. I would also entertain a partial trade for another small block Eliminator restored to driver quality or an original needing only mechanical restoration. Here are a couple of pictures.

Man, Doc, that is a phenomenal car.

I have to agree with you about being afraid to drive something that "pristine". I don't think I would have the guts - or budget - to restore a car that completely. Like you, I would be afraid to drive it, and it has always been my belief that they were built to drive.

I agree with you about some sort of "driver restoration", so that I could take it out for the occasional spin and not be afraid that it would get a ding, or that my ultra-clean engine compartment / undercarriage would get dirty.

I certainly would want the car to more or less appear correct, but I don't think I would be that worried about correct finishes on screws, fasteners and whatnot :)

Is anyone we know here bidding on the Yellow CJ car? I recall Scott (CJ registrar) mentioning that he was looking for a CJ car.
