Happy New Year Fellahs,

The Mecum 70 SCJ Eliminator is not an SCJ, IMHO. It has factory air, and there is no oil cooler and no evidence of a 3.91 or 4.30. I called and emailed Mecum for clarification and guess what? No response.

Thanks for the catch, Joe. I read through the ads again and found no mention of "SCJ" this time. Although I thought it said SCJ last month, so maybe they fixed it already, or I misread it the first time.

I edited my thread above.

Thanks again,

AH! It's in the title to thier ads! I was reading through all the various text and I'm like... "huh, I don't see it."

- May 2011 feature story in Mustangs and Modified Fords

http://www.mustangandfords.com/featuredvehicles/mercury/mdmp_1105_1970_mercury_cougar_eliminator/index.html

It looks like it has 3.91 gears and a thoroughly warmed engine. Probably part of the reason they are labelling it as a SCJ. Article doesn't say SCJ though.
Good read! Turning 12's on polyglas... nice!

Any idea why the prices of these are so varied on the 351 cars? That Illinois car (~$22k) and Florida (~$26k) both look like they are in very good condition, but are $10-20k less than some of the other cars for sale. Is this simply an issue of some cars being grossly overpriced for the market or am I missing something in terms of quality or other issues?

I think for some of the cars it has more to do with who is selling the cars. The higher priced ones generally seem to be dealers, who have to make money.
Although it could also have to do with the quality of the restoration / "original" condition. If you want a "perfect" or unrestored / "original" car for showing (and presumably winning at the shows), then you have to pay for it.

Here's one more for the list. Appears to be a solid restoration. Unclear if there is any documentation to support the eliminator claim.

Thanks Jay, that one has been around for a looong time. I believe it was confirmed as a clone ~ for a few months it actually had "CLOAN" in the listing title. Haven't actually seen any documentation on the car though.

I have the same question. People seem to be asking $15-17K (and sometimes getting it) for cars that appear to need total restoration so the IL car and the FL car look to be excellent deals. The FL car is actually for sale by dealer and he's had it on ebay several times for $26K with no takers. I'm new to this market so if someone could explain to me how/why that FL car isn't selling I'd appreciate it. It looks to be a smoking deal but the no sale on it really scares me when shopping others!

Mike,

You know the WCCC thing is extended to the end of this month, right?

Also (without going and looking), hope you made an entry into the contest? This obsession of yours should put you in the running as far as I am concerned!

Regards,

Bob

I appreciate the support fellahs!

I entered a while back, on page 6. My entry is a big old wall of text though, so hopefully people will read through it. It's funny (in a sad way) that out of all the entries so far, I think I'm the only one with no actual Cougar history.

Wife thinks I'm crazy and that it's a midlife crisis. I tell her: if I've always wanted one, wouldn't that make it a whole-life crisis? LOL! :zap:

While digging through my old "Eliminator Market" posts I realized I've been watching and posting various E-cat findings here for almost 2 years, and collecting the E-cat sales into weekly / monthly threads for almost 1 year. Time flies when you're having fun :)

I thought that I might start including links to the older "Market" threads in with the new listings so that folks could find sales history easier ~ especially for cars that have been listed off and on. Also, just because a car is not in the current Market thread does not mean that it is no longer available.
I've also been saving almost all of the sale history, pics, etc for the cars listed. Not sure if this sort of thing gets saved by Dave (Eliminator Registrar) and added to the Eliminator Registry database or not.
