I've picked up a 8" axle, got no idea what it's out of. It's 2.5" narrower then the stock 68 (1.25 per side) and it has 10x2'' brakes, stock smallblock 68 Cougar has 10x1.75 rear brakes. I know what the codes are for the ratio and 8" it's the rest I'm not sure of. I suspect this rear end is from a Mavrick or Granada.
the top row is;
WDW-AF OC2O
Bottom row is;
2 79-8 S551A

I know it's a 8" and the ratio is 2.79, which one is the date code?

Thanx dude, that's just what I was looking for. This axle is at least 2" narrower then the 68s, it's got a March 1970 build date so I suspect it's from a Mavrick/Comit, it's got the standerd passenger car bolt pattern and 2''x10 brakes. So it has to be out of a car smaller then a Mustang and still have 5 lug wheels......At least that's my theory;-)
