I can clearly see a 0 which is the last digit in the year (ie:1960 or 1970), but then a partial number under it (maybe a 4). The F is for the month of June and the 27 is the day. Perhaps Royce will chime in, he knows all about FE engines. What is the casting number on the block btw? John

That is 1970 Feb 27 and is more than likely a service block. Most service blocks I have seen, were cast in 70

Just wondering but wouldn't 0F27 equate to June since F is the 6th letter in the alphabet, making the block cast on June 27, 1970?

You are correct about June, brain fart, I looked at the F and just went to Feb.
One more question, is the block machined for hydraulic lifters?

Yea 1970 June 27. The are two dots under the zero. Those are service blocks. The two dots were to make a 70's date code different then a 60's date code. After 1968 all 427 side oiler blocks were service blocks.
