Started stripping the paint off the metal part of my dash today. It went pretty well so far. The P.O. had sprayed it an incorrect color, not to mention it looks like he didn't clean it at all before doing it so my dash had a "textured and runny" look. Anyway, I am experimenting on the ash tray as how best to go about it as I know little about this sort of painting but am willing to learn. It's no show car, but I don't want it looking like crap either. I am using a gray krylon primer on the bare metal and laquer from Mustangs unlimited. You guys think this will work out?

Well, answered this one myself. The laquer looks and adheres much better to the bare metal. That primer must be suited to a different kind of paint.

no primer was used originally too much paint will just fill the pattern. I strip with solvents and then spray bare metal in either a base solution or laquer or spray bomb dye from vendors. No problems.
