New to this forum. But I have 69 Convertable. That when I hit the switch it does nothing. I am going to try and trace the wire to see if ther is a disconnect. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
The wire is fed directly from the solenoid by its own wire that goes through the firewall by itself. A pretty heavy black wire. Easiest thing to do is probably check for voltage at the two wires at the pump, behind the rear seat back while someone else works the switch. If no voltage trace further. If voltage, the pump motor is seized or otherwise in need of service.
It has a fusible link near the solenoid. I'd check continuity on that short wire first. Easy to get at. It is a heavy gauge black wire, not that little fuse holder that feeds the under-hood light (if so equipped).
P.S. Welcome to the forum. How was the registration process? How quickly could you post? The forum recently underwent change in management and I'm curious how you found this site and how the registration process went.
Thanks Guys I will check. I see 3 wires from the switch. A black -yellow and red wires!. By the solenoid there are wires that are not connected that looks just like it. Both yellow and red wires have fuse links on them. I will try and connect these and see if it works. Thanks again
So i found all 3 wires (yellow-red-black). OK before I short anything. Can u tell me do I plug in all 3 wires on the positive side of the solenoid? I am off on Monday so I will check on this tomorrow. Thanks for your help guys
Yo so I connected all 3 wires (black-yellow-red to the positive side on the solenoid. Still does not work. I checked the power to the pump and its good. checked the power to the switch and nothing? Is there a fuse box somewhere on the car. I could not find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks HOG
The fuse box is on the firewall above the headlight hi-beam foot-switch, but the top's power does not run through the box.
I'm confused by your wiring. The top mechanism has one, heavy-gauge black wire that runs from the battery side of the solenoid - thru the firewall - to the top switch. The yellow and red wires (going from memory on colors) then go from the switch to the pump motor (wiring goes under the passenger side sill plate).
The only wire in the engine compartment that relates to the top is the big black wire. I'm unclear what the other wires you mentioned are for.
Of course, if someone re-wired the car in a non-original fashion, nothing I say here will make sense.
