The piece of all thread and the nut don't belong there. A real carburetor stud belongs there, with no nut.

The bimetallic choke (not shown in your pictures) often gets old and won't work after 25 or so years. So you have to buy a new one. Also the choke tubes are often blocked or lost making the automatic choke not functional.
