1970 Cougar 351W. did a valve job and the car runs well. good vacuum. good compression. strong off the line. but there is still a slight miss.

if i spray some starter fluid towards the base of the carb, the rpm changes. in my case, it decreases. is this always a carb gasket or could it be something else. rebuilt the carb just before the valve job. thanks-

Sometimes you need to double up the base gaskets if they aren't thick enough to seal well....it's better that overtightening the bolts and risk breaking the ear off.

I do like Mr Gasket's carb gaskets better than stock one IMHO
