ok, sorry to bomb the forum with three in a row, but who better to ask?

another annoying sound - this one when i release the brake pedal. best way i can describe it is as a loose, metallic sound.

70 Cougar. 351W. power assist discs up front, drums in the back. plenty of vacuum so the brakes work well. just curious what the noise is. quick look at the caliper area did not reveal any smoking gun. thanks again-

You pull the 2 bolts out that hold the part of the caliper that allow you to replace the pads. The 2 bolts extend into 2 large holes. The rubber bushings go into those holes and isolate the bolts so that the caliper doesn't move around.

Once you get in there and pull the top half of the caliper off it'll make sense. Make sure you clean and grease the bolts before you put them back.
